Investments

Cash deposits are useful for holding emergency monies for short periods of time, but inflation erodes the value of cash over the medium and long term meaning cash is not actually as safe as many people believe. Moreover cash savings accounts currently provide poor value for money.

Of course, cash has it's place, but with inflation close to zero, many people are reassessing their actual need for instant access cash, and allocating more capital to purchase ‘real assets’ that have a chance of growth. This means decisions need to be made about how and where to invest, but investing in the current environment presents a number of challenges.

The choice of retail investment options is diverse, including:

  • NISAs (Cash and Stocks & Shares)

  • OEICs & Unit Trusts (General Investment Accounts)

  • Investment Bonds (on and offshore)

  • VCT (Venture Capital Trust)

  • EIS (Enterprise Investment Scheme)

  • BPR (Business Property Relief schemes)

  • Structured Investment Products (Deposit or Capital at Risk)

Furthermore, there are many ways in which you can choose to invest your money:

  • Passively Managed Funds

  • Actively Managed Funds

  • Guaranteed Funds

  • With Profit Funds (WP)

  • Multi-Manager Funds

  • Single Sector Funds

  • Governed Portfolio Strategies (GPS)

  • Model Portfolio Services (MPS)

  • Discretionary Fund Management (DFM)

  • Exchange Traded Funds (ETF)
